Communication is also not a problem in Thiruvananthapuram as the people here are well informed and a majority of them can speak English quite comfortably.
Thiruvananthapuram means the place of Anatha and the name is derived from Tiru-Ananthapuram. Anatha denotes the sacred snake that provides shelter to Lord Vishnu with its hood. The city consists of a number of state central government offices, companies and organizations. Apart from being the political center of the state, it is a major academic hub as well. The present day Thiruvananthapuram district was previously a part of he Travancore state and the sources from history have confirmed that it was divided into administrative units by Maharaja Raja Verma. These administrative provinces were Tekkemukkom, Vadakkemukkom and Patinjharemukhom. Tekkemukkom is the present day Thiruvananthapuram.
