Ranakpur Tourism Information
Located at about 98 kms from Udaipur, Ranakpur is one among the five holy places of the Jains. The city is famous for its 500 years old temples designed in the most unique style. Though they are so old they are still well preserved. The most famous among these beautiful temples is the Chaumukha Temple which sprawl over 48000 sq. ft. Another temple which is worth mentioning is the Sun Temple which has polygonal walls designed with impressive carvings of horses, warriors and magnificent chariots.
Being one of the sacred places of Jains the major attraction of the city are the historical temples that surround the city. Tourists on a tour to Rajasthan find it hard to resist visiting this holy place. Not only the temples but the culture of the locals is also what attracts the tourists. Some of the worth mentioning temples of the place are: -
Adishwar Temple or the Chaumukha Temple: - This is one of the five holy shrines of the Jains and was built in the 15th century by Seth Dhanna Shah. It took more than 65 years to design this temple and today this is the largest and by far the most complex Jain temple in India. The temple has 29 halls, 80 domes and about 1444 pillars each of which are artistically carved.
Parshvanath Temple: - Also known as “Patriyon ka Mandir” this marble temple was built in the 15th century. The temple is famous all around the country for its pierced stone windows having ornamental designs.
Along with these two temples there are many more temples which attract a huge gathering many times in a year. There is a temple in the city which is dedicated to the 22nd saint Neminath and one which is dedicated to the Sun God.
This city of Rajasthan is another such place where a tourist really discovers the real part of India. The beautiful temples and the faith of the people towards their Lord is something to be watched out in the city.
