Palakkad Tourism Information
Palakkad is a land situated in the Indian state of Kerala which is filled with Forests, Rivers, Valleys, Mountains and Hillocks. It acts as a gateway to Kerala from the north and is situated on the foot of the Western Ghats. There are many spots of tourist attraction in Palakkad which makes it quite famous in Kerala.
The fort which is best preserved in Kerala is the Palakkad Fort situated in the heart of the town. It is a magnificent structure built by Sultan Hyder Ali of Mysore, and later on modified by the British people. The Archaeological Survey of India preserves it now. Malampuzha dam which was completed in the year 1955 is situated 13 km from Palakkad. It is a beautiful tourist resort now with attractive hilly surroundings. Tourists visit this place to see the garden made on Mughal models and the one which is built in Japanese style. They facilitate water sports and boat cruises on the reservoir.
The shrine of Vishwanatha Swamy is 3 km from Palakkad and is the oldest of the Shiva temples. The Chariot Festival is famous here which takes place annually and lasts for a period of seven days. A Muslim feast known as Pattambi Nercha takes place every year on the first week of February. The Pattambi mosque is situated 61 km from Palakkad. Some of the other interesting places for the tourists to visit are the Pothundi Dam, Chulliyar Dam, Meenkara Dam, Silent Valley National Park, Chulannur Peacock Protection Centre, Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary and many others.
