The stretch of from Delhi to Gujarat reaches its highest point in the form of a picturesque plateau. This plateau is Abu in the Sirohi district which is the only hill station with a summer resort in Rajasthan. This hill station has ravines that are cut into its sites, trees, small bushes and beautifully singing birds. You must have heard of The Rajput Olympus, The Saint’s pinnacle, the hills of Wisdom and the Mon Capitalia and you will be surprised if you don’t know that all these are the names of just one place – Mount Abu.
During the 11th century, mount Abu was an important Shiva and Vishnu pilgrim centre but today it is more of a Jainism pilgrim spot. The beautifully carved Jain temples built between around the 13th century are the most remarkable attractions of this hill station.
Mount Abu is very important from the archaeological point of view and the Achalgarh fort is a testimony to it.
This hill station is really a happening place and had served as a resort to beat the heat for its kings and the British later on. The main summer festival attractions are the picturesque landscape with steep rock surfaces, tranquil lake and a very pleasant climate. The three day cultural festival consists of folk and classical music that represents the culture of Rajasthan. The Shaam-e-Qawwali is something that people are really fond of and wait very eagerly to hear it. The end of the festival is marked by an extravagant firework that adds to the delight of the people present here.
