Well known for its beautiful mountain ranges and dense forests, Idukki district with its headquarters at Kuyilimala, is located in the Kerala state of South India. The name Idukki has its origin in a Malayalam word which means narrow gauge. Owing to its hilly terrain, Idukki possesses beautiful geographic features. Anamudy peak, which is the highest peak in Kerala, is a part of the hills lying in Idukki. These wildlife sanctuaries and national parks include various endangered and protected species such as Tiger, Nilgiri Wood Pigeon, Elephant, Gaur, Samba Deer, Neelakurinji and many more.
Idukki is one of the most important spices plantation estates in Kerala. Abode of the divinity of nature Idukki houses magnificent hill stations, Devikulam and munnar being the major ones. Some of the most significant spots for the purpose of tourism in Idukki are Thekkady, Mangladevi Temple, Thodupuzha, Thomankuthu, Mattupetty, Munnar, Malankara Dam, Kalvari Mount, Nadukani Tower, Marayoor and pallivasal.
