Bundi Tourism Information
Located in Eastern Rajasthan, Bundi is renowned for its forts, palaces and other monuments of classic architecture. Situated at a distance of about 206 kilometers from the state capital, Jaipur, this city is an enclosure, encompassed on three sides by the Aravalli Ranges and on the fourth side by a solid wall, built by the successive generations of its rulers. Initially inhabited by various local tribes, this princely state was governed by the Rajputs, from whom the throne descended to the Mughals and was later captured and taken over by the Britishers.
It was only after independence that the city of Bundi, gained its well-deserved recognition as a tourist hub. It is indeed in the beauty of is forts and in the splendor of its reservoirs, that the city’s major tourist attractions lie.
The Taragarh Fort, also known as the Star Fort, is Bundi’s most famous structure. The peculiarity of the fort lies in the three tanks which it houses. These tanks never dry up and are always filled with water, thus giving the city below, a mesmerizing appearance. Adjacent to this fort, is situated the Bundi Palace. It is the picture gallery within the palace, which proves to be an attraction of all art lovers. The centre of the city is characterized by a large artificial lake called the ‘Nawal Sagar’. However, it is not from here that the city formerly drew its water. It
was through the 50 stepwells of the city, which are currently not very well-maintained, from where Bundi, quenched its thirst. Bundi, is indeed a must in your itinerary.
