Banswara city, in the Banswara district of the state of Rajasthan, is also known as the City of Hundred Islands as the river Mahi which flows across the city accommodates numerous islands. The city got its name ‘Banswara’ due to the presence of bamboo trees in abundance, which, in Hindi is pronounced by the name of ‘bans’. The city lies in the southern most parts of Rajasthan.
It is marked by the state of Gujarat in the south which forms the borders between Rajasthan and Gujarat and is natively surrounded by Dungarpur, Udaipur and Mewar on north and Partapgarh, Holkar and Rewa kantha on other sides.
Historically, Banswara was a princely state which was founded by Maharawal Jagmal Singh. Being in the southern parts of the state it gives relaxation from the extreme hot climate of the west desert areas.
Major attractions of the Banswara are Shri Raj Mandir, Kagdi Garden, Anand Sagar Lake, Abdullah Pir, and Dialab Lake. The wildlife attractions constitute a huge variety of animals. Some of the best known places for excursions are Mahi dam, Talwara and Tripura Sundari. Shri Raj Mandir is a beautiful palace that dates back to the 16th century architecture. Kagdi gardens happen to be beautiful gardens of fountains which is also a major attraction for the tourists. The Dialab Lake is a mesmerizing site. The lake is full of lotus flower and is a real treat to the eyes. Banswara, though, not as popular as some of the other attractions of Rajasthan, still is a place that may be calculated worth visiting.
