Located to the east of the state of Rajasthan, Alwar is a place which offers nice contrasts of nature. It is a district in the eastern territories of Rajasthan and is surrounded by the Haryana state in the north, Jaipur, Dausa and Bharatpur districts on the west, south and east respectively. The city envelops a number of places with historical significance. Alwar also happens to be the commercial hub of the state.
Alwar’s history is full of disparities. On one hand, its origin is marked to the 18th century when the Mughals Empire was on the verge of its extinction while on the other hand we find the mention of the place in the Mahabharta in association with Pandavas. The city has the honor of being the ancient capital of the state.
The major attractions to the city are City Palace, Sariska Tiger Reserve, Bala Quila, Government Museum, The Tomb of Fateh Jung and Moosi Maharani Ki Chhatri. Vinay Vilas Mahal stands to be a beautiful mixture of the Mughal and Rajput architecture.The government museum gives out the entire history of the Rajputs and Mughals by the paintings, carvings and scriptures over here. The fabulous Tomb of Fateh Jung has a colossal dome which stands to be a fine example of Hindu and Islamic architectural mix.
Alwar had been the centre of literary conventions and this can be easily marked in the Government library. The place also houses a variety of handicraft products which are made by the local people.
