Ajmer Tourism Information
Surrounded by the magnificent Aravalli ranges, Ajmer is a beautiful district located in the state of Rajasthan. It is the abode of internationally celebrated pilgrimage centers both for Hindus and Muslims. This city was ruled by Prithviraj Chauhan and marks its significance in the glorious history of the royal state. It is situated at the centre of the state forming the heart of Rajasthan. The city is a major railway junction of the state of Rajasthan, which, in turn, has given place to the commercial development of the city.
Ajmer was initially governed by the Rajputs and Chauhans. Later the throne descended to the Mughals followed by the Britishers. It was only after independence that the city was merged with the state of Rajasthan. Earlier, neither there was a stable ruler nor was Ajmer identified as a kingdom and there was always an ongoing battle for the throne. At one point of time the city was also ruled by the Marathas.
The major attractions of the city are Ana Sagar, Pushkar, the Dargah and Kishangarh. The shrine of Khwaja Moin-ud-din Chisti is of grave importance and is visited both by Hindus and Muslims; Whereas Pushkar is an important pilgrimage for Hindus and is the only temple devoted to Lord Brahma. Not just this, Pushkar also hosts the world’s only cattle fair once a year.
Ajmer has gained a lot of recognition as a tourism centre in the recent times as it stands to be a fine amalgamation of both traditionalism and modernization.
