Kozhikode

Earlier known as Calicut, Kozhikode today holds an important historical place in the Fascinating but forgotten history of Kerala. The name Kozhikode is derived from the Malayalam word for the crowing of a cock. Local rulers called Zamorins who traded with merchants from Arabia ruled the area around Kozhikode. In 1498 the Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama landed at Kappad Beach, near Kozhikode. After which the city of Kozhikode became known and popular.

Lush green surroundings, astounding architectural buildings, historical monuments, serene beaches, river, hills and its Wildlife make Kozhikode a must see for anyone who visits the Fascinating Kerala, South India. Kozhikode Sea beach with its two piers and a lighthouse offers breathtaking view of the Arabian Sea with the Seashore and is a treat for eyes which one can see on trip to Kozhikode.

Beypore, 10 kms from Kozhikode is a famous fishing Harbor, Port and Boat building centre. The famous Kappad Beach, Art Gallery and Pazhassirajah Museum, Pookot fresh water Lake, Ettumanoor, famous Shiv Temple and Thusharagiri waterfalls resting in the laps of he Western Ghats are some of the few places worth visiting in Kozhikode.
