Alappuzha is also famous world wide for its coir industry. Coir, which is made from the outer husk of coconut, is a major trade in the city. The fibres of the husk are processed and woven to make useful articles including packaging materials, boards, mats and brushes. All these products all very well known and brought in huge numbers by the tourists visiting the place.
